Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire – On the evening of Friday 5th November, Newcastle Emlyn’s King George V Playing Field Association will host its annual bonfire and firework extravaganza at the Castle Ruins in the centre of Newcastle Emlyn – the biggest fund-raiser in an annual calendar of events designed to raise ongoing funds for the town’s central playground.

This year, the event will be staged as usual at the Castle grounds in the town, kicking off with a Guy Fawkes ‘guy’ competition at 6.30pm, to be judged by the town’s mayor, Cllr Cefin Evans. Gates to the event then open officially at 6.45pm. A huge bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the huge firework display will kick off at 7.30pm, with Westcoast Fireworks promising the best show yet!

The guy competition is open to any organised children’s group – eg Brownies, church groups, youth groups, schools, nurseries and after-school clubs. Simply bring your entry (making sure it is made of materials that are safe to burn), to the castle ruins for 6.30pm on the night. All guys will make it on to the fire. The youth group that has made the winning entry will win a £50 cash prize for their organisation.

There will also be hot and cold refreshments – burgers, hot dogs, hot drinks, etc to purchase on the night.

ALL PROCEEDS of the event go towards the ongoing upkeep and development of the King George V Playing Fields playground in Newcastle Emlyn, a charity which depends 100% on public donations and grant funding.

Entry to the evening is charged as follows:

Children under 4: FREE

Children aged 4-18: £2.50 each

Adults: £4

Commenting on the event, Sue Tabbitt, chair of the King George V Playing Field Association, said:

“This is a fantastic annual event which really brings the town together, and kickstarts the holiday season. What’s even better is that the money raised goes to a good cause – the local children’s playground. We hope everyone will come along and support the event, and tell their friends and family. We’ve been promised the best firework display yet, so it will be a great night!”
