Eksel / Belgium

It’s been too long since i was in NCE. Ihave visited your town a few times, all the way from Belgium, and I liked it, time and time again.  hope to come back this summer

Andrew Giles, Surrey, UK

I was brought up in Quarry Ffinant. I moved away from NCE in 1983 but NCE never moved away from me. I would like to come home someday. Please don’t change it more than it has been changed already.

Wayne Farnworth, Old Windsor, Berkshire

We visited NCE recently and can’t wait to come back. A superstore would be a carbunkle in this beautiful, vibrant town. We live in Windsor and think that NCE is a far superior place to visit & shop!!

NCE councillors – please do not allow your jewel of a town to be ruined. We also visited Cardigan during our visit and the less said about that the better. Cardigan is a town made for Lidl and Aldi.

See you again soon NCE!!

Ivan Heath, Spain.

Hi to everyone in Newcastle Emlyn!!

From 1987 until 1994 I lived first of all in Cwm Du, and later Pant y Bwlch. Here in Spain we live in a desert area, although right next
to the Mediterranean Sea. It is sunny virtually all the year round, but I still miss the greenness of the Tyfi Valley, and also the people. Fortunately my Daughter still lives there, so we are able to visit quite often. Please do not spoil the Town by building a supermarket, because the present shopping outlets are more than adequate !!!!

Sharon Davies, Staffordshire.

The good and the bad.

I have holidayed in your town for the last 20 years or more, everyone makes you feel so welcome, a good range of shops with local produce to buy. We had yet another fantastic meal at the Emlyn Arms.

And now to the bad. As I sit on our balcony over looking the river, feeding the ducks watching the fish jump, we watched an elderly man who only lives two doors away from the bridge throw his dog faeces bag x 2 into the river. as he walks past twice a day, x 7, x28. How many bags is that I cant believe a local has no respect for the beautiful river and wildlife New Castle Emlyn has.

Norma Coates, Neath, Glamorgan.

Like Mike Hill and at the same time, I was born and bred in Newcastle Emlyn. I have many fond memories but alas the faces I recognise are few and far between also. I too think your website is excellent and I also spend many hours on Hanes Emlyn. I have learned more about the history of Newcastle Emlyn in this way than I ever did in school.

I still call the place Home even though my actual home is now beneath a roundabout. I don’t visit as often as I’d like but the welcome from the people that I know is always the same – Calonus.

Mike Mckenzie, London England

It has been many years since our holidays in the 80’s and recently visited for the first time since then. It has changed such alot but for the better it seems. My wife loves the different types of shops which reminds us of our trip to Narberth last year.

Some of these shops are already mentioned here, but the wife’s favourite is Fleur de Paris which certainly brings a stylish look with its gifts and flowers. A new coffee/sandwich shop next to a pub was really lovely and almost next door the the fashion shop. I have some old photos of the town which compared to the latest ones I took really shows how much it has changed.

If I remember rightly there were lots of antique shops and pubs. We will return again. Lets hope there won’t be any major large shops to spoil the ambiance.

Alison Norman, Warrington England

My family have visited every year for the past 6 years we love it.The market and the individual independant shops give your town charactor. My husband is forever in the butchers. Please dont build any supermarkets, although Sommerfield should up it’s game. We dicovered CK’s this year. Why is their wine so cheap?

Joan Pedgrift, Brighton England

Hello everyone at Newcastle Emlyn! We often visit our family who live in Cenarth and look forward to return. We have noticed recently a great improvement with some new shops. the Crystal Shop has some lovely things as does Fleur de Paris, the new gift shop/florists have some interesting gifts that are different for those looking for unique things. Can’t fault the customer service in these shops – its what’s important these days to small towns like Newcastle Emlyn.

A couple of new cafes are on the high street which generally gives a feel that the town is improving and bringing in lots of newcomers. Supporting the town is vital for its future and we always look forward to visiting and seeing a few of the usual characters which make it special. Please do not allow any of the major shops to come in and spoil this lovely spot.

Martin Hale, Perth, Western Australia

G’day all in Newcastle Emlyn. The beautiful country and interesting history has inspired me to build a model railway loosely based on the GWR Newcastle Emlyn branch line from Pencader. The layout is 2 years into construction and track is still being laid!

The hope is to be able to model both Newcastle Emlyn and Henllan stations reasonably accurately with the countryside in between conveying a “feel” of the real thing. Unfortunately lack of space prevents me from modelling the scenery more accurately.

I would love to use photos of the real Teifi Valley to make the backboard of the layout. Hopefully I can visit in the not to distant future to make this dream a reality.

The whole project is painstakingly slow, originally the plan was to take 5 years but it seems that I might have been optimistic.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Mike Hill, Billericay, Essex

Brought up in NCE approx. fifty years ago and, sadly, finding it hard now to recognise any of the faces in your events photographs. Congratulatons on the high standard of your website.

Anne Williams, Caernarfon Gwynedd

We have a caravan in Cenarth but we love comming to Newcastle Emlyn daily please do not build any supermarket in or out of town you have all the shops that any one could ask for and well stock we hope we will have many more years visiting your town keep up the good work.

John Armitage, Chicago, USA

Thanks for letting me look around your lovely town. I hope to be visiting the UK next fall. Maybe I can come and see it for real.
